Road Fitness

For years, I’ve had gym memberships where ever I’ve lived.  Be it rain, snow, hot temps or cool temps, I always had a safe sanctuary for indoor exercise if I wanted.  As a supplement to running and cycling, a gym membership was the perfect partner.

Exercising on the road is not so reliable … certainly doable, but not as ‘easy’ versus the gym.  Furthermore, fitness equipment is definitely ‘back to basics’ – no fancy machines or giant TV monitors to help pass the time.   Just me and the task at hand.

Today’s mobile gym set-up is pictured above – TRX straps hanging from tree limb and a yoga mat.  Simple, basic, and no bullshit.

Fetch

Sometimes it just comes down to a guy playing fetch with his dog.  Clearly, I am still feeling bad about Lilly spending too much time indoors this week.

Camouflaging Suburbia

Pictures can be deceiving.

This week I’ve been working long hours and with Kelly away in San Francisco, Lilly has been not been getting as much  outside time as I would prefer.  Feeling guilty about the situation, I closed the laptop a bit early tonight and took Lilly for a long walk through the nearby trails.

The RV park we are calling home for another two weeks is situated on the edge Woodbury – a suburb within the broader Minneapolis metro area.  Much to my surprise, the urban planning gurus of the past were thinking ahead when approving development plans.  The area is littered with fantastic trails and smaller lakes, all of which create a nice illusion of sorts.  Add a variety of mature trees into the mix and I nearly forgot I was surrounded by thousands of homes … the epitome of suburban crawl that would otherwise make my skin breakout into hives.

Kudos to Woodbury city planning efforts.

As for Lilly … I think I’ve bought myself some time before she begins guilting me into another long walk.

Back To The RV Park

Pushing east into Minnesota this weekend, we’ve arrived to the Minneapolis metro area.  All of my immediate family lives in the area, so this visit affords lots of time with everyone.  I also have a number of friends in the area, so I should be able to catch-up with many of them as well while Kelly and I are here.

While it will be great to be so close to everyone, the downside of this visit is finding ourselves in a massive RV park (I’m guessing there are about 100+ rigs here).  As one would expect with a place of this size, there is no shortage of silly rules to navigate – each a potential landmine in itself, as park staff whiz about in golf carts looking for anyone who might dare breach the policy guide.

Our travel route brings us to Colorado once we leave Minneapolis … something tells me the vast and beautiful bookdocking and a lack of accompanying rules will be a very welcome relief following three weeks in this park.
