Window Office

We’ve settled nicely into our Oregon state park campsite.  And, as evidenced by the picture above, there has been no complaining about the office views.  In fact, it will be a damn shame leaving this serene site when we move onwards to the next place.

But then again, this is Oregon and there is no shortage of spectacular.

Oregon!

Just when I’d grown tired of pumping my own gas … Oregon to the rescue.

I’d been looking forward to spending extended time in this Pacific Northwest wonderland for years and today we said goodbye to California and crossed into Oregon – one of my favorite places.  Almost instantly my mood improved .. the air smells better, the water tastes better, and thanks to Oregon State Statute 480.330, I have an extended break from pumping my own gas.

Today we drove about 2.5hours to north into Brookings, a small(ish) town just across the CA/OR border and settled in at Alfred A. Loeb State Park, a few miles outside of town.

While always subject to change, our plan for now is to remain in the state through end of July; a rough travel outline is pictured below (clockwise).

Pleasantly Surprised

eef10-12725024_1666000243624837_1756870927_n Self promoted as “The Last Great Resort”, Sportsmans RV park is quaint and super chill.

Situated steps from the harbor, this has been a great place to watch commercial fishermen, Coast Guard boats, and whale watching tour boats (hoping to catch glimpse of whale migrations) come and go throughout the day.

Yes, it’s still an RV park, but unlike so many other private parks, this place is about as laid back as one will find and the staff here could not be nicer; a refreshing change of pace for sure.  And while we are still incredibly bummed that state parks in the area remain closed due to flooding, this park has been a pleasant surprise.

Oh, and there is no shortage of fresh seafood … literally off the boat.

Barking & Exploring

We rescued Lilly a few years ago and are not quite sure of her age.  We think she is about 9yrs, but cannot say for certain.  For sure, she has aged … the spring in her step is not quite what is used to be and similar to me, there are an increasing number of gray hairs to be found on her face.

That said, bring this dog anywhere near the coast and she finds the spirit of her youth.  She’s very curious and loves to bark at the waves as they break against the shoreline.

Like Kelly and me, she is loving life on the road.
