Supporting A Great Cause

Our good friends Brian & Leigh of Aluminarium have been living full-time in an Airstream for something like 7 or 8 years.  In an effort to chronicle their travels and also help others find and research campgrounds all across the country, they started the website Campendium.

This project has been a massive under-taking … one they manage in addition to their regular full-time day jobs.  Like any start-up, funding is always top of mind so Brian and Leigh have begun selling t-shirts to raise funds in support of the effort.

One can never have too many t-shirts … especially when buying goes towards such a great cause.  If you have not yet tried using Compendium, go visit their site.  I’m guessing you will find the product to be a great campground planning tool and if you are anything like Kelly and me, you will have no hesitation buying a shirt … a small act that will go a long ways to helping to sustain a great cause.

Incredible Landscapes of Page, AZ

I’ve been wanting to visit Page, AZ for a long time – pictures I’d seen portray a one of a kind landscape.  Just a few miles from Utah border – not too far from Grand Canyon and Zion National Parks, I was confident Page would not disappoint.  The town itself is not much – mostly businesses catering to tourists passing through, but there is plenty of opportunity to explore unbelievable landscapes.

Mixed Emotions

Feeling a bit cooped-up in my hotel this afternoon, I went for a walk though one of the local neighborhoods.  It’s been damn hot and dusty in Delhi this week, and despite the haze and stink in the air, I was happy to venture out to explore a bit.

This is my 4th visit in 8 months and I’m approaching the equivalent of 5 weeks “experience” with the city.  Now, walking the streets of Delhi, I’m beginning to feel pretty comfortable with my surroundings, but still struggle with the extreme poverty which is everywhere.  By contrast, in the states it is easy for me to maintain a bubble of ignorant bliss; I know there is poverty, but the reality is I rarely encounter it directly.

Such dynamic seemingly does not exist here.  The juxtaposition of those who have and those who do not have is stark and very much in your face.  I cannot imagine how anyone from a first world country can visit and not feel guilty.  Today I was reminded how fortunate I am and how easy my life is in comparison to so many here.

Then I returned to the posh hotel I’m calling home for 10 days.

I’m still trying to reconcile my feelings for this city – it’s filthy, the traffic is horrific, core infrastructure is awful, generally speaking I don’t enjoy the traditional foods, and much to my frustration I cannot find a decent beer anywhere.  On the other hand … people are incredibly warm, the history is both fascinating and abundant (including three incredible World Heritage Monuments), and perhaps most impressive – the human spirit of resourcefulness and survival is strong.  My experiences here really have been amazing.

Despite my mixed emotions, one thing is for certain – both literally and metaphorically, this place is a world away from my day-to-day existence in the states.  India is such an interesting place and I’m grateful for these opportunities to visit.

Counting Down To Launch

For the past 12 months, Kelly and I have been patiently waiting for April-3. As each month passed, we cut it off the countdown list, knowing we had inched closer to our goal of becoming fully mobile full-timers. What started as long-term goal, is now only days away. Friday we leave Half Moon Bay and start our lives living on the road. We have a rough travel route over the next two years and only a few firm location commitments. Mainly, we will be wandering with purpose. from Instagram: http://ift.tt/19hhzEk
